Product Description

Ideal for traveling golfers, the full-featured SkyCaddie SG3 Golf GPS has a durable, water-resistant shell for playing in all conditions and is powered by 2 AA batteries--which eliminates the need for carrying chargers and cables while traveling. It's also equipped with the patented IntelliGreen technology, enabling golfers to measure the full depth and shape of the green from any angle of approach, both on or off the fairway. Part of SkyCaddie's exclusive, professional 4-Star SkyCourses, IntelliGreen graphics provide an eagle's eye view of the green with an indicator representing a direct line-of-play from wherever you are on the course.

The SkyCaddie SG3 offers a high-performance GPS receiver with a satellite-based augmentation system for accuracy. Other features include a programmable memory module to store thousands of targets, auto-hole advance, large grayscale LCD display, built-in atomic time, and up to 12 hours of continuous use from two AA batteries.

With an annual SkyPlayer Club Membership Plan (not included with purchase of device), you can easily download thousands of our professionally enabled SkyCourses. Three different levels of memberships are available, based on how many courses you want to store and play. If you do not want a membership and your course is not already available, you can record the front, center and back of each green with your SkyCaddie's quick set-up module, which takes about 10 seconds.

Frequently Asked Questions:
Q: Can the SG3 give me the distance to the pin?
A: The SkyCaddie, using the IntelliGreen graphics found on our professionally recorded SkyCourses, provides more information than just the distance to the pin. Once the line of play is selected on the graphical green outline, it provides the minimum carry to get on the green, the maximum limit you have to the back of the green, plus you can adjust to obtain the third distance of the approximate flag location. All three distances are provided simultaneously from any direction as you approach the green. You can then frame your shot in a much larger target area and select the best club. You will hit more greens and have shorter putts than a single number can provide.

This is a great tool to help your game along. It especially is usefull for avoiding the hazards on the course. I love mine and all my friends and family love theirs too. I just chose the SG3 because I can always throw a couple spare batteries in my bag and never have to worry about charging it like with the SG4.
Easy to set up and great on the course

From reading reviews on both the SG 3 & 4 models I gathered the SG 3 is far and away better than its SG 4 counterpart so I decided to buy the SG 3 about 1 week ago and used it for the first time yesterday in my league match. It worked great from #1 to #18. The set up process was very easy using the new 2.0 version software which you can download directly from the [...] website, which is nice. It was a good thing I read the reviews talking about how all the skycaddie models need clear view of the sky as I would hold the skycaddie out of the cart as we were arriving to our balls (in the rough :-0) to not have to worry about the unit needing a minute to get the most accurate reading. I certainly do feel it helped my pace of play especially since I was playing a match and would have normally taken a little extra time to make sure of my distance. My opponent said the same thing when were in the clubhouse after the round. Also something to point out is the extended warranty is an additional cost which like stated in another review was not listed until you get to the set up screen. I highly recommend purchasing this as the manufacturing warranty is only 3 months and when you look at what you paid for the unit it's a little peace of mind, at least for me, in case you happen to get a lemon. The [...] a year subscription fee each year isn't that bad considering the number of rounds I play each year. I would definately recommend this product.

Skycaddie SG3

I purchased an SG 3 and like it very much. It has a relatively large viewing window that can be backlit when desired. I purchased the Skycaddie because of the number of professionally mapped courses on their website. I would like to be able to program course features like bunkers, etc. but that information only seems available on their professionally mapped courses. At least one of their competitors alows you to input that data on any course. Like one of the others who reviewed this product, I could not get the unit to sync with the website through my computer. I wasted an hour and a half trying and came very close to returning the unit. Customer service is not available in the evening and I did not receive a reply to my email to their website. However, I did figure out how to get around the problem that I encountered. When in the registration box, input aaaaa, bbbbb or other meaningless information. It will then bring up a form to edit your informtion. Make the changes at that time and you should be on your way. You will have to enter a valid email address and possibly one other bit of information; the reply will inform you. I would also like to see a less expensive cart mount. Seventy dollars is expensive. A carry case for the handheld and the mount would be nice. One person who rated the product did not like the fact that skygolf charges an annual fee. They do make it known up front that they charge an annual fee. At least one competitor does not charge for this service. Skycaddie had all of the courses that I play in their system. I think that a flat rate of $25 per year would be a fair price to cover all of their courses world wide. Instead, owners must choose from a few different pricing options. I would think that the inceasing competition in this market will eventually force them to reduce the cost of their annual fee options. I also did not appreciate having to purchase an extended warranty in order to have the unit covered the first full year. The company should be willing to stand behind their product. If you are considering purchasing a GPS for golf, I suggest visiting the company websites to see if your courses are in their system and to understand their pricing policies.
Very Useful, not perfect

I have had the SG3 for 5 months now and generally are very pleased with it. I have not had a single interface issue and have used it on 3 different PC's. I've downloaded about 25 different courses in 5 states and all have worked well.

I have noticed that the accuracy is not alawys very good. I played yesterday and it was 10 yards different from my partner's skycaddie 2 on one tee box. I walked to a yardage marker and paced it off - mine had changed 8 yards and now was about accurate.

Overall, it has been helpful and is accurate abot 90% of the time. As long as you validate the info (even grossly by seeing where you are in relation to 150 and 100 yard markers) you'll be ok.

The recharable batteries work great, I swap two pairs and I get 36 holes per pair before I need a recharge. When it says low battery, i hit the ok button and keep going.

I also think Skhawke has far and away the most courses.
